:: BAND BIO ::
After nearly a decade in the U.S. doom/sludge circuit, a Pittsburgh-based long-running underground act called Horehound came to an end with the departure of guitarist Brendan Parrish. Rather than dissolve completely, the remaining members—Shy Kennedy (vocals/synth), Dan Moore (drums), and Russ Johnson (bass)—continued forward under a new identity. Johnson transitioned to guitar, and the band expanded its sonic weight with the addition of Lou Snyder (Riparian) on bass.
FUNERALS pushes beyond its origins into darker, more oppressive territory. Their sound blends slow-burning doom with suffocating sludge, layered with stark electronics, cavernous vocals, and a bleak, cinematic atmosphere. Rooted in Pittsburgh’s underground heavy music community, Funerals carries forward a lineage of DIY ethos, volume worship, and uncompromising mood. Their upcoming debut material marks a deliberate evolution—less traditional doom, more immersive and desolate.
FUNERALS not a continuation. It is the aftermath.
FUNERALS is completing work on its debut recordings. The first transmission arrives in April, followed by Studies in Decay: Volume 1 in May 2026. Follow on Bandcamp as it unfolds.
